Not
only are the people of Costa Rica incredibly friendly and welcoming,
but the country is amazingly beautiful. Costa Rica has it all -
from long stretches of sand to rocky cliffs; from wild animals to
peaceful flowers; and seemingly endless pristine rainforest jungle.
The popular greeting response of "pura vida" sums up this
country. A direct translation is "pure life," and refers to the
influence of Christianity in the culture as well as to the Costa
Ricans' simple lifestyle. (Hint: don't try using this phrase in
other Spanish-speaking countries, or you will get strange looks - this
is truly a Costa Rican phrase!)
